Piccolo is actually a replica of a
Namekian called Kami-Sama,
which means a Guardian or a
God. Kami-Sama was sent to
Earth to take the position as the
Guardian of Earth, however, in
order for him to satisify that
position, he must release the
evil side of himself so
Kami-Same would be a pure
hearted God. However, during
the process of releasing his evil
spirit, and the evil version of
Kami-Same became alive, and
became an evil replica of
Kami-Same called Piccolo-Devil.
Gokou, eventually met
Piccolo-Devil and had an intense
battle with him. When
Piccolo-Devil was killed, he
released an egg which later hatched and
became Piccolo.
